DELAYED DIAGNOSIS OF KARTAGENER SYNDROME
Abstract
Early diagnosis and management of
Kartagener's syndrome is important, to prevent
irreversible lung damage that can result from this
condition, though there is no definitive treatment.
Case Report: We present a case of Kartagener
syndrome in a 35yr old woman who presented with a triad
of sinusitis, situs inversus and bronchiectasis on imaging.
There was associated history of infertility. She had been
managed in at least two other health facilities for chest
infection and once as a case of pulmonary tuberculosis
until her presentation in this institution where the
diagnosis was made.
Conclusion: The rate of occurrence of treatment failure
and antimicrobial drug resistance can also be reduced by
prompt diagnosis and treatment.
