PRIMARY EXTRA NODAL NON-HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA OF THE ORAL CAVITY: A RARE ENTITY
Abstract
Lymphoma refer to malignant neoplasm of the
lymphoreticular system usually arising from B
Lymphocytes, they are classified into
Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) and Non-hodgkin
Lymphoma (NHL). NHL can occur in the
stomach, skin, lung, salivary glands, and rarely
in the mouth. The oral cavity constitutes only
2% of all extranodal lymphomas. Almost 95% of
the oral cavity tumours are squamous cell
carcinomas The head and neck is the second
most common region for the extra-nodal
lymphoma, The diagnosis of oral lymphomas
may be challenging because of the ow index of
clinical suspicion, leading to misdiagnosis
and/or delayed treatment. We therefore
present a case of an elderly woman who
presented with a non -healing ulcer in the
mouth mimicking squamous cell carcinoma
.Biopsy revealed lymphocytic infiltration of B
cell type.
